Giveaway Winner Announced !!!

Thanks to the Sew Mama Sew Day Week Giveaway this has been a fun week looking at what all my new and seasoned followers and new friends are busy doing.  Your comments were very much enjoyed and I wish I could have found the time to chat with all of you.  I would like to share what I gathered from all of you throughout the week.  Most importantly, I am not the only crazy one with too many projects in the works.  I also am very impressed with each of you who only work one or two projects and see them to completion!!!  You have my envy and awe.  Unfortunately, I love starting projects more than finishing them and the proof is in the numbers.  I will also, share in this post what the majority of my projects ---WIPs and UFOs included are.

First off here's a little info I gathered from all your comments this week from your 253 comments:

Number of Projects per person:

1 to 2

3 to 5

6 to 9

10+

Too Many

Number of People:

35

74

46

12

17

I am somewhere between 10+ to too many.  For now I will claim 10+.  Some of you clearly said too many.  However anyone with 20 or more was also put in the too many category, also.  Sorry but that's how I see it... just rest assured I am closely right there with you...OK.. OK after counting how many I have included in this post it is 21 plus 3  I can't find pictures for and didn't remember to photograph today.  That is officially too many for me, too.  As you can see the majority of you---74 of you--- have a nice 3 to 5 projects going on.  Good job!!!
I am including a picture of most of my works in progress in this post. I say mostly because I know I have the three flimsies previously mentioned that are not included in the following pictures here.  But I did blog about them here sometime but I cannot find them to share with you...sorry about that. Yes, it will be a lengthy post but I thought a lot of my followers and especially my new followers would enjoy a better accounting of what I am up to over here and let's face it...I need reminding of all these projects needing my attention too.

However,  I know each of you has an even bigger yearning to know who won so I will let you know now and if you want to read the rest of the post great if not I understand you have your own list of to do's to work through, especially now that you've just shared with me what you are busy doing. So without further ado Mr   Random chose comment number 233... as the lucky winner!!!

Congratulations to Joan H who said, " I have a baby quilt and and full size quilt in progress. "

Joan, I look forward to hearing from you soon ---I have emailed you---so I can get your 411 so I can get your package out to you and on it's way to your house ASAP. Congrats again on your win!!

Here's what I currently have on my present and forgotten agenda:

Mixer bowl from Kristy at Quiet Play's Sew Kitschy BOM
May had us adding this block to our retro themed kitchen blocks.

This is a picture of the five of them made so far this year

Plus I have been keeping up so far with Janeen's In the Garden BOM from Quilt Art Designs.  This month we added a Fish Fountain to the garden.  Here is how it turned out.

I've been using low volume for the background and really like how this one is turning out.  Janeen's patterns are fabulous.  Each of these BOM's offer the pattern for free the month they come out and you can find them for a small fee on their craftsy pages or thru their websites.

This one has had seven blocks so far.  I love how the low volume background really does sink into the background and the objects bright colors are the stars of the stage.

This is the Little Tree being added to the BOM project from Cindy's Quilt Doodle Designs this month.  And pic of what I've made so far this year following her patterns each month. Each of these ladies has a flickr group and it is so fun seeing what others do with the same pattern each month.

Here is what the year has had us making in the first 5 month's of her BOM for 2014

Portland Modern Quilt Guild Medallion top.  We each started with a center medallion of our choosing and add a row each month.  May's addition is not on here yet...

these are a collection of Michael Miller fabrics that we are suppose to convert into any quilted project by June 23rd in the 2014 MQG fabric Challenge. Would love to find time for this.  Have an idea in mind just need to get it going.

The fairy tale blocks are from Kristy at Quiet Play.  She has them for sale on her Craftsy site as a set of nine blocks---Happily Ever After Pattern Set-- that I hope to turn into a baby quilt this year.

These are 10 projects in various stages that need a little of my time and love

Dress pattern I picked up recently and some beautiful Kaffe Fassett fabric to go with it

These charms I have big plans for.  I got these in a Kate Spain charm swap that I participated in a couple times and each time grabbed two spots.  They are 224 of these beauties.  One set will end up in a hexagon quilt, and I will also make a handbag from this pattern I bought recently at a quilt show.  plus I think they will be in three additional quilt tops...at least two plus the hexagon quilt but I am hoping for three.

I have been participating in the scrappy trip block swap that Julie from 627 Handworks puts together each quarter and these are the lovely blocks I have received so far.  Round 5 is just beginning but if you are interested Round 6 sign ups begin July 1st.  I am having brown, green and blue as my color choices.  Since this is a scrappy trip quilt top so that is all the direction I have given the group each time.  I love the darker values but am glad the lighter values are there, too and have complete faith that this will be a beauty when it is done.  You can sign up for as little or as much of these as you want and each round are partnered up with 5 other people and each of them requests a block in their color choices and they each make you one in yours.  It is fun getting them from all over the globe.
Plus I have the Bertie's Year of Mini quilts that I have only made the January one so far the others are just piling up...YIKES.  My Skillbuilder 2013 blocks still needs to be quilted and sewn together, also...almost forgot about that one...It will be a beauty one day!   I hope all of you can remember and find time in the days ahead for forgotten projects.

So there you have it a pretty good accounting of what I am up to at present over here.  I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing about your present shenanigans this week and wish you all the best in seeing your projects through to completion but obviously won't be judging you for starting a fun new adventure along the path of sewing bliss you are set upon!!!

Thanks to all who participated in this May's Sew Mama Sew giveaway!  I look forward to doing it all again in December.

Till then Keep Stitchin' and drop in for a visit anytime

Mr Random chose number 71 as the winner who will enjoy a little Kate Spain "In from the Cold" love from me.   Making the winner Alida!!! I have emailed Alida letting her know she is the lucky winner and will get her package off to her as soon as I hear back from her with her 411.

In Alida's winning comment she said:
I am thankful for all the inspiration I am getting from this bloghop! Thanks for the chance to win!

What a huge coincidence that Alida's blog was one of the site's that I felt hugely lucky to have stumbled across on this blog hop! She has a wonderful blog worthy of checking out if you didn't catch it on the hop.  She blogs at Quilting, Paper Piecing and Crafts and offers lots of free wonderful paper piecing patterns like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Alice in Wonderland and Snoopy to name a few.  I have a grand-daughter who loves Mickey and Minnie so I was thrilled to find her patterns for them.  If you love paper piecing like I do you will surely fall in love with her creations!  Congratulations Alida!!!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!  May your blessings be many and your gratitude shine brightly!!!

Traveling Stash giveaway update!!!

qreativequilts by qreativequiltsqreativequilts, a photo by qreativequilts on Flickr.

The Traveling Stash must hit the road and move on down the road.  Mr Random has had the honor of choosing the recipient of the stash and without further adieu he has chosen  Katie as the lucky winner.
She was number Three.  Since the first comment was from overseas and unfortunately couldn't participate in the traveling stash because the stash has to stay in the Continental US to keep shipping costs down, Mr Random had to choose between numbers two thru four.

I will be contacting Katie shortly to get her info and will send the box out to her quickly thereafter so she can have fun choosing what she would like to swap out of it.  I hope you find some great treasures in there that you can have fun with!!!   Thanks for hosting a visit with the stash.

100th post, giveaway and a plea

                                                 Wow ...Celebrating 100th

Technically I think I had my 100th post a few posts ago...but when I recently added the labels to my posts somehow I lost a few of them but now it is official.  100 posts !!!  To celebrate I am hosting a giveaway.  I picked up a few new fat quarters just for this occasion.  Here is what I thought would help me celebrate this milestone.

4 yummy fat quarters!!!  This giveaway is open to all my followers.  I will ship internationally.  Winner will be chosen next Thursday, April 11th,  8 pm PST by Mr Random.  I will contact the winner by email so please make sure you are not a no reply blogger or leave your email info in your post.

Here are the rules to follow if you want a chance to win these cuties.

1.  You need to be a follower for this one...old or new doesn't matter

2.   Leave a comment telling me what project you are working on right now

3.   Please read the plea from Michele below.
You can have a second entry if you leave a comment saying you committed to helping Joey and left a comment with Michele on her blog telling her that you would be sending her a 9 inch piece of fabric and a wish for Joey.  Michele will contact you and give you her address when you email her.  You can read below her original post about her plea to help Joey by making him a 100  good wishes quilt and what she needs from us.  What a better way to celebrate my 100th post than to help Michele and  more importantly Joey and his parents with our support in a 100 good wishes quilt.

Here is what we can do to help:

Michele says:

Please Help Joey

A 9 year old boy Joey is now battling a very serious form of renal cancer and there is no cure. It has also unfortunately spread to his lymph nodes. He is the very good friend and classmate of my friend Kris's daughter. The diagnoses just came 3 days ago. I'm petrified of something happening to my own kids and I can't imagine what his parents are going through. He is facing surgery and chemo as they attempt to beat the odds and he will be in the hospital at least a month, if not a lot longer.

Last night Kris came up with the idea of having a 100 Good Wishes Quilt made for him and she asked if I'd be willing to make it. I immediately said "Absolutely"! She has posted on her local FCC group (Families with Children From China) asking for contributions of fabric squares and good wishes and I told her that I'd post here too requesting the same from my readers. Hopefully together we can collect enough squares to make him a decent sized quilt to comfort him in the coming days, weeks and months.

Kris has the crazy idea that she is going to pay me to make this quilt and of course that is absurd. I wouldn't take a single dime from her to make this quilt. But I will need to find a long arm quilter who might be willing to donate her services for this one. If not I'll pay for the work out of my own pocket.

So here is what I'm asking of you....please pick out and send to me a 9" square of fabric, something that you think a 9 year old boy would love. He lives in Florida so obviously anything with snow or winter themes is foreign to him but I'm sure there are tons of other possibilities available.

The wish? For those that aren't familiar with this part of the tradition, it is something written to the child. For a baby to be born, it would be some sort of wish for a happy and healthy life, much like what you find written inside a new baby congratulations card. For this it should be something more akin to what a young boy would appreciate but please keep them happy and upbeat. It can be a wish, a funny story, a poem or just a note telling him that he is in your thoughts and prayers.

Please write your wish on card stock paper instead of inside a folding card as Kris wants to put them all in a scrapbook album for Joey to keep with him, so he can go through and read the wishes any time he wants to. You can make it fancy with lively scrapbooking flair or keep it simple, totally up to you.

Obviously time is of the essence here so if you want to help please let me know and I will email you my address. If you can help spread the word I would be eternally grateful. No child should have to face something like this. I don't know how long he has but I'm sure knowing that so many people care and are sending him wishes for recovery will help keep his spirits up and the hope high.

Thank you one and all!
Update: To clarify for those that have asked and everyone else that will read this, I am requesting just a square piece of fabric, not a quilt block. And Joey does not yet know that he has cancer. The parents are waiting until they get more test results back and have more information before they break the news to him so please keep that in mind when you write your wish.

Anyone can be a part of this project. All you need to do is to send Michele a 9" square piece of fabric (just fabric, not a quilt block), something appropriate for a 9 year old boy (Michele just learned that he likes super heroes and he plays the violin) and a written wish or quote, a poem or a joke, or a silly story...something to cheer him up and bring a smile to his face.

I bought a bat man print to send off to him but am hoping I can find a dragon print this weekend as this is a quote I found that I would like to include with my 9 inch fabric if I can find a dragon print.

" Fairy Tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten."  ---Neil Gaiman ---Coraline

Sew Busy

I really wanted to have a post up last weekend for International Quilting Day but found myself sew busy that I never found time to show what I was up to.  Before I show you let me show you what Barbara received from me as her little surprise in the last giveaway.

Not the additional fabric...this little owl just seemed to like perching on it...but the little owl pincushion.  She said he certainly did put a smile on her face. I need to find time to make one for me now.  He is a cutie patootie!!!  Although he does kind of have a face saying don't stick me again please.

I spent last Saturday working on the quilt laying in the background in the picture above.  I still need to buy border fabric and would have taken a better pic to show it off but the weather isn't cooperating around here.  Lots of gray skies and rain.  The cherry trees are starting to bloom and I would love to get a picture of it with one of those if the sun would just make an appearance.

On my sidebar you might have noticed I have decided to join another QAL.  This one (Forest QAL) needs intermediate paper piecing skills per its creators Julianna and Joanna.  You find them at Sewing Under Rainbow (Julianna) or Shape Moth (Joanna).  This promises to be outstanding.  If you have the skills or want to stretch yourselves you should definitely check it out.  Next block is two feathers and the third one is a kick ass Aspen Grove that I just saw a moment ago for the first time when I created these links and I am astounded at its beauty!!!   I bought the fabric for the first block this weekend to celebrate Quilting Day.  Did I ever celebrate too,  I ended up buying  28 fat quarters, 2 third yard cuts and a 1/2 yard cut.  Wahoo!!!  Boardwalk Quilts in Long Beach, WA had a special on fat quarters... buy 20 and get them for $1.69 a piece and they had tons to choose from.  It was worth the drive put a big happy smile on my face.

First I should show you what they mean by intermediate paper piecing skills needed.  Here is what the pieces look like that needed to be put together again.

Problem is you can't even see a bird in all those pieces...now add in that they are all mirror imaged of what you are creating and it was a little messy to figure out what colors go where.  Luckily they had a colored diagram representation of the block that I kept referring back to a lot.

I love how he turned out though.  I used unconventional colors for him but love how he looks.  I love how the designer added a shadow for him. The picture probably doesn't do him justice.  The crown at the top of his head and throat are a vibrant purple and I love that color with the turquoise and teal.

Lastly I have spent some time this week starting to piece together my fontastic blocks into the baby quilt that I have planned for my daughter's baby due in September.  Here is a pic of the first section only and I love how this is turning out so far.

Now it's time to get started on my fun day. I have the day off work and my daughter and I are going to the first quilt show of the year in our area in Milwaukie today.  Last year I was pleasantly surprised at this show and look forward to what  I may find there todayNot only did the small show have lots of great quilts but an excellent garage sale of guild member cast offs and I picked up some great stuff so I look forward to the treasure hunt today!!!

Keep Stitchin'

Giveaway Update

This weekend you all have put a very big smile on my lips and warmed my heart with your comments on the giveaway.  Spring already feels so much closer with all your help.  A big welcome to all my new followers and a huge thanks for pushing me over my goal of 100.  I have found three more fq's to add to the giveaway as promised for all your help with reaching my milestone!!!  Here are the three fq's that will be joining the three fq's below on a journey to one Winter Blues Blog Hopper soon along with a surprise...you'll have to wait to see what the surprise is a while longer.

The pink one on the end has two 2 1/2 inch square bites taken out of it so I am adding in a seventh fq that you can see in the next pic...lighting is not the best ...the seventh is a brown with pink polka dots!

The giveaway continues to March 14th.  I will let Mr Random choose a random winner on the 15th.  To enter please leave a comment on the original post you can get to it by clicking here

This weekend I got a couple more of my March Bom's completed.
I made the March block for the And Sew On...BOM @ Quiet Play.  You can check it out more  by clicking on the And Sew On button on my sidebar.  Each month Kristy is posting a free sewing themed paper pieced block on her blog and after the end of that month you can find the pattern for sale at her etsy shop.  So if you missed January and February you can still join in.

Isn't this block sew much fun!!!

Next I finished the March block for the Castle BOM offered this year by Ula Lenz for free.  You can find out more about it here   Remember I do this one three times each month so I still have two more to go.  This one for right now is my favorite.  Each is done in a different theme.  This castle I am making for a bunch of gnomes.  They didn't commission me to do it but it has been a pleasure to make it for them anyway.  I seem to have a gnome crush after making the Quilt U Be Mine wall hanging featuring Gnome-o and Juliet.   You will see one has already moved in a set up residence in this month's block!

I now have the three parts made in January-February-March put together to form this part of the castle.

Now I will go back and make it in a fairy princess theme and the third remains a secret that you will have to wait till I reveal it in October to see.

Hope you are starting to see Spring revealed to you a little more this week.

It's a Party

Welcome to all of you stopping by for the Beat the Winter Blues Blog Hop Party and celebrating the approaching end of Winter!!!  I think this is a great way to spend the time waiting for Spring to arrive.  A huge thanks to Michele from the Quilting Gallery for hosting the big bash for us.  I love a great blog hop party!!!  Be sure to visit all the other participating sites.  You can find a list of all the blogs participating here

Blog Hop Party with Give-Aways
I don't know about you but I have been preparing for Spring with a little Spring cleaning.  My sewing studio has needed it for a while. I admit I am a messy cook and evidently an even messier quilter.  I did find a few goodies to share with one of you while doing so, so I guess it is a win win situation.  I hope to be able to share my clean space with you soon.  The last time I cleaned up there I only cleaned it half way and couldn't wait to get back to sewing and this time I want to do a thorough job...but having said that I am already itching to get back to some UFO's and my March BOMs.

So you want to know what I found for you.  Well wait no longer.  I would love to share the love with these three fat quarters I found left over from the QuiltUBe Mine swap I participated in.  I never used these so they must want to live with one of you lucky blog hoppers.  I am also going to throw in a surprise because that is what gifts should be about right?  SURPRISE...you will just have to wait to see what it might be. The Party lasts thru the 14th of March so I will let Mr. Random choose a winner on March 15th and post it here and contact the winner by email.  It would be really sad if I couldn't contact you if you win so please be sure you are not a no reply blogger when leaving a comment.  If you are unsure you can leave your email in your comment in the format of (email address at  dot com) or net or what have you. I will ship to anywhere in the world so please feel free to have the luck 'o the Irish and enter to win.

I am requiring no hoop jumping for this giveaway.  To enter just leave any old comment on this post below.  I would love to have you follow me but it is not required to score the goods.  Feel free to look around and stay a while if you like but I know you are itching to get back to hopping ( I know the feeling and can relate). One comment per person only please.  I am however close to 100 followers and will add three more fat quarters to the offering if I get to that milestone. I am also close to post number 100 and will be hosting another giveaway soon for that.  Keep watch for more on that in the next month or two.

Put some joy in your day!

Freaky Friday and my Wicked Wacko

When Wendy announced her 'WICKED' blog hop I knew I needed in on this action.  A BIG thank you to Wendy from Why-Knot Kwilt and Madam Samm for organizing this hop, cheering us on and letting me put my 'WICKED' thoughts to good use.

I first thought of designing some witch legs and shoes, but about the time I was going to put something together the Embassy in Libya was stormed and our American Ambassador was killed along with three other Americans.  My mom, worked overseas in our Embassies for 10 years before retiring recently so this didn't sit well with me.  Sorry to get political there for a moment...must be that time of year... but is there anything more wicked than terrorism in this world?   Even though the assignment was wicked fun not wicked evil I did have wicked good fun designing these blocks.  In fact I had a blast making my little buddy...well maybe not his feet.... Anyway the attack got me thinking about Jeff Dunham and his comedy act featuring                "Achmed the Dead Terrorist".  Now there was an idea I could wrap my head around...just not in a turban.  If you are not familiar with Achmed and Jeff Dunham , you can check out their comedy routine by following the link below.

Here is the block I made for Achmed the Dead Terrorist:

You know Achmed needed those out of control eyebrows and...

Of course, he needed a body and ....

 some sexy legs:

put him altogether and I have to say Achmed looks pretty 'WICKED'
I put the three 10 1/2 " blocks together and added a border to complete it like this.

I thought he might look good with a few bars... but he is on the wrong side of them...hee hee hee

A huge thanks to Wendy again for allowing me to participate in this hop and stirring up my creative juices. This is the first blog hop I've participated in and it has been a blast!  Be sure to check out today's other spooktacular surprises  from our wicked quilting friends from the list below:

Frightful Friday,
October 26th

GIVEAWAY TIME!!!

For sticking with me through this long post and checking out my humble blog, of course , I am going to offer up something special.  I know it might be considered a little late to giveaway Halloween fabric but who can pass the chance to add Moda's Monster Bash 5" charm pack to their collection
